The Borg Sphere is a Grade 5 Epic Battleship, unlockable at Ops Level 55+, and it runs on two exclusive tech systems instead of standard ship research: the Borg Operating Table (PFT) and the Interplexing Beacon (CT). Both need upgrading alongside the ship's own tier and function like a dedicated research tree, but every buff from either system only applies to the Borg Sphere itself.
The Borg Sphere is required to fight the new Conqueror Borg Suppressor and Obliterator hostiles in the Assimilated Sol system -- standard ships simply aren't effective against them by design. The Borg Operating Table boosts Warp Speed, Apex Shred (countering a Grade 5 hostile buff), and Critical Damage reduction (countering a Grade 6 hostile buff), plus raw Critical Damage. The Interplexing Beacon adds a Hyperthermic Stabilizer (countering the Obliterator's Hyperthermic Resonance Beam), Critical Chance reduction (countering a Grade 7 hostile buff), and Shield Mitigation reduction. The Suppressor is a constant, farmable target for the Sphere's new weekly tasks; the rarer Obliterator pays out more but carries a high instant-kill risk that a higher CT level helps offset. One hard rule to know before you engage: fielding Kathryn Janeway, Christopher Pike, or Enterprise-E Picard against these new hostiles gets your hull instantly destroyed -- leave them off the bridge.
Two free Refits unlock at tier milestones: Transwarp Drive at Tier 4 (instant warp using Transwarp Manifolds, plus a daily Manifold chest via the Maverick Faction) and Assimilation Protocol at Tier 5 (applies an Assimilate state to target players for 2 rounds at combat start). Three passives -- Quantum Nullification Pulse, Omicron Particle Charge, and Apex Dispersion Field -- disable the Conqueror hostiles' instant-kill weapon and boost damage and Apex Barrier against them specifically. The Sphere is deeply tied to Maverick Faction progress: it unlocks and is required for new Weekly Tasks (solo hostile hunts that scale with your Sphere's tier and stack credit/reputation gains across every task you qualify for, plus an Alliance-wide version), and clearing them grants exclusive rewards including Artifacts and a choice of Ship Parts.
