Syndicate is a permanent account-progression track, separate from any single ship or officer -- leveling it up earns stacking stat buffs (warp speed, combat power, mining and more), unlocks for managing Officer Presets, better Daily Goal payouts, an exclusive officer (Ghrush), cosmetic frames, and an extra Exocomp slot at max level. The buffs genuinely stack across tiers (+10% warp speed at one level plus +15% at a later one gives +25% total), while Daily Goal reward multipliers replace rather than stack (moving from 1.5x to 2.5x means you're now at 2.5x total, not 4x). Syndicate XP comes from in-app purchases, Special Events, Battle Pass rewards, and a free daily claim -- so there's a no-spend path through it, just a slower one.
The Court of Q -- unlocked at Ops 19 with Court of Q Keys from your Gifts section -- is your entry point to Q's Trials, timed one-on-one fights against a unique hostile whose Shield and Hull Health reset between attempts, so a failed attempt doesn't waste the encounter, only the Trial Bell you spent starting it. Trial Bells come from daily gifts, events, or offers, difficulty and rewards both climb as you rank up, and upgrading the Court of Q building itself increases your bonus Protomatter per Trial and unlocks further Trials and Forbidden Tech refinery options. Protomatter earned here is what actually upgrades Forbidden Tech, which makes the Court of Q less a side activity and more the engine room for the whole Forbidden Tech system below.
Forbidden Tech is ship equipment unlocked exclusively through Q's Trials, available from Ops 19 on any ship Tier 2 or higher. Before you can equip anything you need Fusion Rods -- obtained by exchanging Forbidden Tech Credits at the Refinery -- to unlock the slot itself, and the Fusion Rod cost of unlocking, swapping, or removing a piece scales with that Tech's rarity. Moving a Forbidden Tech from one ship to another costs double, since it's charged as an un-slot fee on both ships involved. Everything is managed from the dedicated Forbidden Tech inventory screen, and upgrading a piece you've already slotted uses a separate Level-Up and Tier-Up track from unlocking it in the first place.
Chaos Tech is a second, parallel equipment slot alongside Forbidden Tech -- more focused, more niche abilities, and it grants power immediately rather than through a gradual unlock chain. Its defining difference from Forbidden Tech is reliability: Chaos Tech upgrades always succeed, with no failure chance at all. You unlock a ship's Chaos Tech slot with Chaos Tech Fusion Rods, earned by defeating Assimilated Caryn-class, Prohibitor-class, and Frohmun-class Hostiles in Amargosa and similar advanced systems, which drop Chaos Modules refinable into the rest of the Chaos Tech materials (Tier-Up Catalysts, Chaosmatter, Reactors). The abilities themselves run stronger than most Forbidden Tech -- a piece like the Q Cannon stacks debuffs on an opponent's critical hits and critical damage while boosting your own base weapon damage by four figures percentage-wise, so a maxed Chaos Tech loadout is a genuine power spike, not a minor accessory.
The Aggregation Refinery is a third rung on this same ladder, unlocked through Recon Locus levels tied to Ops progress: level 1 (Ops 45) opens Forbidden Tech materials and upgrades, level 51 adds Prototype Tech (starting with the Orion Syndicate Bomb) and Rare materials, level 61 adds Epic materials plus PvP-focused Prototype Tech (Romulan Mines, Counterplay Device, Self-Replicating Mines) and the Harvester mining Prototype Tech, and level 67 adds Epic Prototype Tech Tier-Up Catalysts. Prototype Tech is the most powerful tier of Forbidden Tech to date -- it uses the same equipment slot and the same Fusion Rods to swap, but upgrades entirely through the Aggregation loop rather than needing Q's Trials at all. Feeding that loop are Hyperthermic Decay Hostiles, an Aggregation-faction enemy that scales from Common at G4 up to Epic at high G6, gaining more combat buffs at every rarity step up.
