The term “unsung hero” is thrown around a lot in Hollywood. However, nobody is more deserving of that moniker than Gwen DeMarco. Possibly the most enthusiastic member of the original Galaxy Quest cast, Gwen had thrown everything behind the character of Lieutenant Tawny Madison. Despite her character being horribly mismanaged by the misogynistic writers of the time, Gwen never let it stop her from being the best version of herself she could be. She truly lived by the old saying, “no role is too small.” Unlike most of the other cast members, Gwen would go on to maintain a fantastic relationship with the fans of the show. Where her cast-mates mocked the enthusiastic, die-hard viewers, or otherwise viewed them as little more than cash-cows, Gwen went out of her way to treat the fans with kindness and gratitude, aware that her career was built on their devotion. During the Protector crew’s ill-fated space adventure, DeMarco proved to be a sharp, quick-witted bridge officer, throwing herself into life-threatening situations to save her friends. Along with Nesmith, she was able to brave the Chompers and activate the Omega-13 device, bringing about Sarris’ destruction.
