Kathryn Janeway was appointed as captain of the Federation starship U.S.S. Voyager in 2371. Her first general order in this new role was to locate a missing Maquis vessel; an undertaking that would cause Voyager to become stranded in the Delta Quadrant, approximately 70,000 lightyears from home. With Voyager’s crew sustaining heavy casualties upon arrival, Janeway faced a seemingly impossible challenge in her first days of captaincy. Regardless, her display of courage and leadership resulted in several Maquis detainees being promoted to active duty onboard Voyager. These appointments would result in the formation of not just a crew, but a family. In the annals of Starfleet, no other captain has delved further into the depths of space - willingly or otherwise - than Captain Janeway. Voyager’s mission and journey back home would see Janeway become the first Starfleet captain to successfully traverse the Delta Quadrant. Subsequently, she would become one of the most decorated and venerated captains in Starfleet history.
